Goals The overall aim of the project is to contribute to the understanding and practice of corporate sustainability and to develop and test training materials to help this process. For this reason, the training materials are intended to be practical and will be supplemented with case studies from all participating organisations. The training package – consisting of PPT slides, a handbook and an accompanying trainer’s guide, a multimedia learning kit and web-based discussion forum facility – is going to be created with the involvement of partners from 4 countries, drawing on and making use of the experience and already existing materials of all partners, and at the same time developing them. The project also initiates a new type of cooperation between the non-governmental sector, industry and educational institutions as the training package will be developed with the involvement of all three sectors. | CSR – WHY IS IT INTERESTING? Searching the Internet for the expression „Corporate Social Responsibility” we may find about 100 million results. If we look for „Corporate Profit”, we will get about one and a half or twice as much hits . So profit and responsibility are mentioned about the same magnitude on the web pages dealing with companies. |
It is worth to have a look at Hollywood’s premiers which are not known to be extremely alternative. In recent years more movies can be seen regarding corporate irresponsibility and immorality (Pl. Lord of War, Super Size Me, Wall Street, The Corporation, An Inconvenient Truth). According to a survey in May 2006 64% of Hungarians think that the Hungarian companies do not pay enough attention to sustainable business. Only 13% forms positive opinion about the situation. Cynicals think of CSR as a new PR fashion which will not last for long. Idealists talk about the crisis of capitalism and the birth of a new market economy. What do you think? CSR IN HUNGARY – FORM IT WITH US! Two non-profit organisations - the Hungarian KÖVET and the Swedish The Natural Step - are spreading the idea and tools of environmentally and socially responsible business. As our mission states we are interested in spreading the profound interpretation of CSR. For this reason we invite top managers of small and big companies from Hungary for a round table discussion and course where they can familiarise themselves with the topic and even take part in forming it. In favour of the collaboration and with the support of the European Union Leonardo da Vinci program, the participation – on certain conditions, see pg. 4 – is free of charge. A course –planed to be organised every year– is the part of the Training for the Future program4, which includes a one week course for graduating university students, an educational film called „Alternative Enterprises”, as well as a handbook and teaching materials in three languages both on paper and as multimedia learning kit.
